Welcome to my journey!

This blog is going to tell you about my journey to becoming a happy, healthy TriPawd dog. First a little background. My name is Bacon and I’m a 2 yr old German Shepherd. I was found, fostered, and rescued in May 2012. And man did I hit the jackpot! My family rescued me from a life on the urban street and now I live on a huge family farm! I’ve got 3 active boys to run and play with; a mom that spoils me rotten, a dad that lets me ride in his truck and hang out in the shop/barn. There’s also 4 guys that work on the farm that scratch my ears and play with me! They will even let me ride in the Tractor when I’ve followed them out in the field. Who knew all this land was MINE and so many great people that love me so much!

I’ve had the best six months of my life! But, my life changed on Tuesday. I was so excited to see my dad working in the field that I decided he needed some company. Well, I remember running up to him but, my memory is a little fuzzy after that. I heard my dad tell the vet he hit me with the tractor and plow. He was crying and asking if I was going to be ok. Well, of course I’m going to be ok!! I’m a tough shepherd! I’ve never seen my dad cry before, that kind of scared me and I tried to lick him and tell him I was ok. He hugged me and mom was crying too. She held me in the back of the car during a car ride. She kept telling me I was going to be ok! I love her so much! Then the nice ladies took me out of the car and on this wheeled bed into what they called an animal clinic. They gave me some medicine that stopped my pain and then I went to sleep. I had a great nap!

Well, here’s what I’ve figured out. I ran up to dad when he was plowing.  He saw me coming and realized I was going to have to hang out in the barn while we was working so close to the house. He looked back to see how close to the road he was and when he looked back at me; I was laying on the ground. My tail was almost completely cut off and my right rear ankle was severed as well. But, I’m so lucky, there was no internal injuries. My dad feels soooo bad but, he never meant to hurt me. I just LOVE riding with him. It’s the best! Please don’t be mad at him, he loves me so much! And I love him! He’s my best friend!

Well, I’m going to lose my tail and myright rear leg. That’s kinda scary. But, mom and dad said they’d help me get better every step of the way! Aren’t they awesome! Well, tuesday they removed my tail. It hurt so much, now it just feels weird? They said they’re going to give me a couple of days to recover then amputate my leg on Friday. My doctor called my daddy and said my surgery went really well. But, I’m sleepy now and they said I can’t see mom, dad and my brothers until tomorrow morning. I can’t wait to see them! Goodnight!

  1. Bacon, you are a real miracle pup! Wow, I’m so sorry you had such a bad accident but don’t worry, we could never be mad at your dad. I know you will get all the love and help you need to get back on your three paws and out there loving life again. Thanks for starting a blog, we can’t wait to know all about your adventures!

    1. Thanks! My dad is still pretty sad about me getting hurt. But, I’m hoping he’ll feel better soon. Just like me!! I’m getting around better than anyone expected me to. They said it would be more difficult with no tail, but, I’m fine! Make sure you check in with me; life is never dull here on the farm!!

  2. Hey Bacon, dude that was a baaaaad accident! I’m glad you’re OK because we GSDs have gotta stick together ya hear? And now that you’re a right rear leg Tripawd, you can join MY pack, got it?

I want to come visit you on the farm! We can chase chickens and herd the cows! Sounds like fun to me, but I’ll be sure to watch out for those tractor things.

Feel better soon OK? Keep us posted you crazy dawg.

    1. Thanks dude! It was pretty crazy. But, I got to come home today! It’s so great! Mom even fixed me steak tonight. YES! Total score! I’m totally going to milk this!
I’d love to have you come visit but, my humans don’t raise any animals, just my little sister. But, riding in the tractors or the trucks is way funner than chasing them. That should be ok!
